Divorce Options

When it comes to divorce there isn’t only one way to get through it. Everyone’s situation is unique and needs to be treated differently.

A collaborative divorce is a non-adversarial way to settle a divorce out of court. This is a solution focused process, where both parties can be satisfied with the agreement and can rest assured knowing that their assets and the welfare of their children are preserved.

Divorce mediation is a process where a neutral party; the mediator; can join the conversation without taking sides. The mediator can help with talking out concerns or opinions so both parties can be heard. This process can help couples come to an agreement on their own.

Traditional lawyer-assisted divorce or negotiating is a long process that takes time and money. Traditionally trained lawyers will create separation agreements based on only the party they represent, which leads to misunderstandings, miscommunication, and delays, as the lawyers for each party will go back and forth until an agreement is reached.

Litigation is the process of going to court and having a judge decide the terms of the divorce. This usually happens when the couple can’t reach an agreement on their own. Most divorces are able to take steps to negotiate an agreement that both parties are ok with, so going to court is a last resort.
