Is Mediation the right choice for you?
Mediation in Calgary is generally a voluntary process which means that if you wish to mediate a family law matter, you and your spouse must agree to mediation. Mediation is confidential and provides you with the opportunity to explore a wide range of possible solutions. As your Family Law Mediator, Beryl McNeill can assist you with issues dealing with your separation and divorce which may include:
- How are we going to co-parent?
- How are we going to communicate?
- How are we going to manage our bills and separate out our finances?
- How are we going to divide our property?
If you and your spouse have issues relating to finances and division of property that require resolution, then you and your spouse should each first speak with a lawyer independently regarding what the law would indicate for your specific situation. See more about this under separation agreements.
The role of a mediator is to be a neutral party for you and your spouse and a mediator does not provide legal advice.
Beryl McNeill will provide you with an assessment of whether mediation might be an appropriate option to assist you with your family law matter. Mediation may not be appropriate for all couples. If your family is experiencing issues of violence, neglect or chronic alcohol/drug abuse, other Divorce options are likely more appropriate for you. Beryl McNeill has special training in assessing your situation to determine whether you are an appropriate candidate for mediation in Calgary.
